Early Life and Background

Akash Deep hails from Dehri in Bihar and grew up in Kolkata, West Bengal. His father, Ramji Singh, was a government school teacher. Despite facing opposition from his family and community for pursuing cricket over academics, Akash remained determined. After personal tragedies, including the loss of his father and elder brother within six months, he became the primary breadwinner for his family. To support his cricketing aspirations, he played tennis-ball matches in Durgapur, earning around ₹600 per day. He later joined a local cricket academy and transitioned from batting to fast bowling as his physique developed.

Domestic Career

Akash made his debut for Bengal in all formats in 2019. He quickly gained attention with a six-wicket haul in just his second first-class match. In the 2023–24 Ranji Trophy season, he was Bengal’s top wicket-taker with 41 wickets, including a 10-wicket match haul against Haryana. His consistent performances led to his inclusion in India A’s squad for the tour to South Africa, where he was the team’s leading wicket-taker against England Lions. This success paved the way for his Test debut for India in February 2024, where he impressed with a fiery opening spell against England.

IPL Career

Akash Deep was first picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2021 IPL season as a replacement for an injured player. He made his debut in 2022, playing five matches and taking five wickets. However, his appearances were limited in the subsequent seasons, with only two matches in 2023 and one in 2024. In the 2025 IPL auction, he was acquired by Lucknow Super Giants for ₹8 crore, reflecting his growing stature in Indian cricket.

Personal Life

Akash Deep’s journey is marked by resilience and determination. Despite facing early setbacks and limited resources, he pursued his passion for cricket, overcoming numerous challenges to represent India at the international level.
