Domestic and IPL Career
Patel began his domestic career with Gujarat in 2012. His breakthrough came during the 2013–14 Ranji Trophy season, where he amassed 369 runs at an average of 46.12 and claimed 29 wickets at 23.58 in seven matches.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Axar debuted with Kings XI Punjab in 2014, earning the Emerging Player of the Tournament award that season. He joined Delhi Capitals in 2019 and, as of 2025, has been appointed the team’s captain, succeeding Rishabh Pant. With the Capitals, he has accumulated 967 runs and taken 62 wickets in 82 appearances, maintaining an economy rate of 7.09.
International Achievements
Axar made his ODI debut against Bangladesh on June 15, 2014, and his Test debut on February 13, 2021, against England, where he took seven wickets, becoming the ninth Indian bowler to secure a five-wicket haul on Test debut.
He was instrumental in India’s victories at the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy, contributing significantly with both bat and ball.
Personal Life
Axar married Meha Patel on January 26, 2023, in Vadodara, Gujarat. The couple welcomed their son, Haksh, on December 19, 2024.
