Early Life and Family

Riyan hails from a family with a rich sporting heritage. His father, Parag Das, is a former first-class cricketer who represented Assam, Railways, and East Zone. His mother, Mithoo Barooah, is a former national record-holding swimmer who competed for India in events like the Asian Championships and SAF Games. Additionally, his cousin is the renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg.

Domestic Career

Riyan’s cricketing journey began at the age of 14 when he made his Twenty20 debut for Assam in the 2016-17 Inter State Twenty-20 Tournament. He debuted in first-class cricket for Assam during the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy, becoming the first player born in the 21st century to do so. In the 2022-23 Vijay Hazare Trophy, he was the highest run-scorer for Assam, amassing 552 runs, including three centuries. He also showcased his bowling skills by taking 10 wickets that season.

Riyan’s exceptional performance continued in the 2023 Deodhar Trophy, where he was named Player of the Series. He led in runs scored, sixes hit, and wickets taken, amassing 354 runs and 11 wickets. He set a record by hitting 11 sixes in a single innings, surpassing Yusuf Pathan’s previous record.

Indian Premier League (IPL) Career

In the 2019 IPL season, Riyan was acquired by the Rajasthan Royals for his base price of INR 20 lakh. At 17 years and 175 days, he became the youngest player to score a half-century in IPL history. He continued to impress, and in the 2024 season, he emerged as the highest run-scorer for Rajasthan Royals, accumulating 573 runs and hitting 33 sixes. This performance set a new record for the most runs scored in a single season by a player batting at number four.

International Career
