Player profile for Suyash Sharma
Suyash Sharma is a young Indian cricketer known for his impressive leg-spin bowling. Born on May 15, 2003, in Bhajanpura, New Delhi, he made a name for himself with his deceptive googlies and sharp cricketing acumen.
Suyash began his cricketing journey as a batsman before transitioning to spin bowling. He gained attention after being noticed by the late Suresh Batra, who was Virat Kohli’s first coach. Batra recommended him to former Delhi cricketer Kartar Nath, which led to his selection for the Dena Bank team in the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) league.
After the merger of Dena Bank with Bank of Baroda, Suyash continued playing for Madras Club and eventually earned a spot in the Delhi Under-25 team. His performances caught the eye of IPL scouts, and in December 2022, he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for his base price of ₹20 lakh.
He made a memorable debut for KKR in the 2023 IPL season, taking 3 wickets for 30 runs in a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, a performance that helped his team secure a win.
Suyash is known for his leg-spin variations, including the googly, flipper, and backspin, and his aggressive and sharp bowling style. Despite facing personal challenges, including the loss of his coach during the COVID-19 pandemic and his father’s illness, he has remained focused on his cricketing career.
Suyash’s long hair and bandana have drawn comparisons to Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra, adding to his growing popularity.
