Abhimanyu Singh Biography

Abhimanyu Singh, born Abhimanyu Shekhar Singh, is an Indian actor who works across Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Gujarati cinema. He was born in 1974 in Sonpur, Bihar, and has worked as a professional actor since 1995. He is not related to actor Chandrachur Singh, a frequently repeated misidentification.

He began on television, appearing in Sony’s Aahat (1995) and playing Ronnie Banerjee in DD National’s Swabhimaan (1995–1998), before making his film debut as Inspector Srivastava in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Aks (2001). His first major screen role came as Rananjay Singh in Anurag Kashyap’s Gulaal (2009), a performance that won him the 2010 Stardust Award for Best Breakthrough Performance. He drew further critical praise as Rajidi Bukka Reddy in Ram Gopal Varma’s Rakta Charitra (2010) and as a corrupt police officer in Onir’s anthology film I Am (2010).

Since then he has built a career largely on antagonists across languages, including Velayudham (2011, Tamil), Gabbar Singh (2012, Telugu), Mom (2017) opposite Sridevi, Sooryavanshi (2021), Bachchhan Paandey (2022) and the Malayalam blockbuster L2: Empuraan (2025). On streaming he has featured in Chacha Vidhayak Hain Humare, Bhaukaal, Khakee: The Bihar Chapter and Inspector Avinash. He is married to Sargam Singh, whom he wed in 2008.
