Ashutosh Rana Biography
Ashutosh Ramnarayan Neekhra, known professionally as Ashutosh Rana, is an Indian actor, poet, author, television presenter and singer. He was born on 10 November 1967 in Gadarwara, Narsinghpur district, Madhya Pradesh, and spent part of his childhood in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He graduated from Dr. Hari Singh Gour University in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, and trained at the National School of Drama in New Delhi. He is a cousin of the politician Rameshwar Neekhra.
Rana began on television in serials such as Swabhimaan (1995), Waris and Farz, and hosted the shows Baazi Kiski and Sarkaar Ki Duniya. His screen debut was the 1993 bilingual film Ashaant, but recognition came with his portrayal of a psychopathic killer in Dushman (1998), for which he won the Filmfare, Zee Cine and Screen awards for a negative role. He won a second Filmfare and a second Zee Cine Award for Sangharsh (1999). He has worked predominantly in Hindi films, alongside Telugu, Tamil and Kannada cinema.
Later credits include Mulk and Simmba (2018), Sonchiriya and War (2019), Pathaan and Tiger 3 (2023), Fighter (2024) and Chhaava and War 2 (2025), as well as web series such as Aranyak and Khakee: The Bihar Chapter. He won the Filmfare OTT Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Web Original Film for Pagglait in 2021. Away from acting he has written the books Maun Muskan Ki Maar (2019) and Ramrajya (2024). He married the actress Renuka Shahane in 2001 and they have two sons, Shauryaman and Satyendra.
