Hrithik Roshan Biography
Hrithik Roshan, born Hritik Rakesh Nagrath on 10 January 1974 in Bombay (now Mumbai), is an Indian actor and producer who works in Hindi cinema. He was born into the Roshan film family: his father, Rakesh Roshan, is a director and actor; his mother, Pinkie, is the daughter of the producer-director J. Om Prakash; and his uncle Rajesh Roshan is a music composer. He has an elder sister, Sunaina. Roshan was educated at Bombay Scottish School in Mahim and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Sydenham College.
He appeared on screen as a child from the age of six in Aasha (1980), had his only speaking role of that period in Bhagwaan Dada (1986), and later worked as an assistant director on four of his father’s films. His first leading role, in Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000), won him the Filmfare Awards for Best Actor and Best Male Debut. The science-fiction film Koi… Mil Gaya (2003) was a turning point in his career and led to the superhero sequels Krrish (2006) and Krrish 3 (2013), the latter his biggest commercial success.
Roshan has won six Filmfare Awards, four of them for Best Actor — for Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, Koi… Mil Gaya, Dhoom 2 and Jodhaa Akbar. He married Sussanne Khan in December 2000; the couple separated in 2013 and their divorce was finalised in 2014. They have two sons, Hrehaan and Hridhaan. He is next set to reprise the role of Krrish in a fourth instalment of the franchise, which will also mark his directorial debut.
