Neha Kakkar Biography

Neha Kakkar (born 6 June 1988) is an Indian singer whose work spans Hindi film playback, pop singles and television. She is the younger sister of the singers Sonu Kakkar and Tony Kakkar, and began performing at religious gatherings as a child. In January 2021 she became the first Indian singer to win a YouTube Diamond Award, and she is the most followed female Indian artist on Spotify.

Kakkar was born in Rishikesh, then in Uttar Pradesh and now in Uttarakhand. Her family moved to Delhi in the early 1990s, and she moved to Mumbai in 2004 with her brother Tony. She participated in the second season of Indian Idol in 2005 and was eliminated early, then released the album Neha The Rockstar in 2008 and made her Bollywood entry as a chorus singer on Meerabai Not Out.

Her breakthrough came with “Second Hand Jawaani” from Cocktail (2012), followed by “Sunny Sunny” from Yaariyan and “London Thumakda” from Queen in 2014. From 2017 she worked repeatedly with composer Tanishk Bagchi on recreations of older songs — a trend that produced hits such as “Dilbar” and “Aankh Marey” but also drew sustained criticism, including plagiarism allegations from artists such as Falguni Pathak. She married the Punjabi singer Rohanpreet Singh at a gurdwara in New Delhi on 24 October 2020, and has judged Indian Idol seasons 10, 11, 12 and 13 as well as Superstar Singer season 3 in 2024.
