Prabhas Biography

Prabhas, born Uppalapati Venkata Suryanarayana Prabhas Raju on 23 October 1979 in Madras (now Chennai), is an Indian actor who works predominantly in Telugu cinema. He is the youngest of three children of film producer Uppalapati Surya Narayana Raju and Siva Kumari, with an elder brother, Prabodh, and an elder sister, Pragathi, and is a nephew of the veteran Telugu actor and politician Krishnam Raju. His family hails from Mogalthur, near Bhimavaram in West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh. He studied at Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Chennai and DNR High School in Bhimavaram, and took a BTech at Sri Chaitanya College, Hyderabad.

He made his acting debut in 2002 with Eeshwar and broke through with Varsham (2004), followed by Chatrapathi (2005), Darling (2010) and Mirchi (2013), the last of which brought him the Nandi Award for Best Actor. S. S. Rajamouli’s two-part epic Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017) turned him into one of India’s first genuinely pan-Indian stars. He is among the highest-paid actors in Indian cinema and has featured on the Forbes India Celebrity 100 list since 2015.

Later films include Saaho (2019), Radhe Shyam (2022), Adipurush (2023) and Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire (2023). His horror-comedy The Raja Saab, co-starring Sanjay Dutt, opened in January 2026 to mixed-to-negative reviews and underperformed at the box office. He is in advanced production on Fauzi (working title), Hanu Raghavapudi’s war drama set in 1940s colonial India, which has been expanded into a two-part saga and is targeting a Dussehra 2026 release, and on the action thriller Spirit with director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, which began filming in late November 2025.
