Ram Charan Biography
Konidela Ram Charan is an Indian actor, film producer and entrepreneur who works primarily in Telugu cinema. He was born on 27 March 1985 in Madras (now Chennai) to actor Chiranjeevi and his wife Surekha, and is a grandson of the comic actor Allu Ramalingaiah on his mother’s side. He has two sisters, Sushmita and Sreeja. He was educated at Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan in Chennai, The Lawrence School, Lovedale and Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, began a commerce degree at St. Mary’s College in Hyderabad without completing it, and trained at Kishore Namit Kapoor’s acting school in Mumbai.
Charan made his debut as a lead in the action film Chirutha (2007), which won him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut – South. He rose to prominence with S. S. Rajamouli’s fantasy action film Magadheera (2009), the highest-grossing Telugu film of its time, and went on to star in Orange (2010), Racha (2012), Naayak (2013), Yevadu and Govindudu Andarivadele (both 2014) and Dhruva (2016). He also appeared in the Hindi film Zanjeer (2013). His performance as Chitti Babu in Sukumar’s Rangasthalam (2018) drew wide critical praise.
He reached international audiences with Rajamouli’s RRR (2022), his highest-grossing film, for which he received a Critics’ Choice Super Awards nomination and a third Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu. Later releases include Acharya (2022) with his father, S. Shankar’s Game Changer (January 2025) and the sports action drama Peddi (June 2026). Charan launched Konidela Production Company in 2016 and owns the Hyderabad Polo and Riding Club. He married Upasana Kamineni on 14 June 2012; their daughter Klin Kaara was born in June 2023, and the couple had twins, a son and a daughter, in January 2026.
