Ravi Mariya Biography

S. Ravi Mariya is an Indian film director, actor and writer who works primarily in Tamil cinema, where he is best known for villainous, comic and supporting roles. He was born in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu, and has been active in the industry since 2000.

He entered films as an assistant to director S. J. Suryah and made his on-screen debut with a small role in Kushi (2000), on which he also worked as associate director. His directorial debut came with Aasai Aasaiyai (2003), starring Jiiva, in which he also played a character named Ravi. He directed a second feature, Milaga, in 2010, and wrote dialogues for Aalwar (2007) and Sandai (2008).

As an actor he built his reputation through Veyil (2006), Pazhani (2008), Mayandi Kudumbathar (2009) and Goripalayam (2010), before director Ezhil cast him in a run of humorous roles beginning with Manam Kothi Paravai (2012) and Desingu Raja (2013). He has also worked in Malayalam cinema through Major Ravi’s Mission 90 Days (2007) and Kurukshetra (2008). The Government of Tamil Nadu conferred the Kalaimamani honour on him in 2020.
