Roshan Mathew Biography
Roshan Mathew, born 22 March 1992, is an Indian actor who works in Malayalam, Hindi and Tamil films. He hails from Changanassery in the Kottayam district of Kerala; his father, Mathew Joseph, is a bank manager with Canara Bank and his mother, Regina Augustine, is a retired PWD engineer. He studied at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kottayam, enrolled at the School of Engineering, CUSAT in Kochi, then dropped out after a year to take a BSc in Physics at Madras Christian College, Chennai.
He came to acting through the stage. His first professional theatre role was Neal Kellerman in Stagefright Productions’ staging of Dirty Dancing at the Museum Theatre, Chennai, in February 2011, after which he worked with most of the prominent Chennai companies. With friends at Madras Christian College he founded the group Theatre No. 60, and his revival of Jean-Paul Sartre’s No Exit won him the Best Director award at a national student theatre festival in 2013. He moved to Mumbai in 2014, joined the Drama School Mumbai, and later appeared in Faezeh Jalali’s 07/07/07 and Rajit Kapoor’s adaptation of The Glass Menagerie.
On screen he began with the web series Tanlines and made his film debut in Puthiya Niyamam (2016). Ganesh Raj’s Aanandam (2016) put him on the map, and supporting roles in Koode (2018) and Moothon (2019) each won him a SIIMA Award. He led Kappela and C U Soon (both 2020), worked in Hindi on Choked (2020) and Darlings (2022), and won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Dubbing Artist in 2024 for dubbing Arjun Radhakrishnan’s role in Ullozhukku.
