Introduction

Salman Khan is an Indian actor, film producer and television personality who works primarily in Hindi cinema. Over a career spanning more than three decades he has won two National Film Awards as a producer and two Filmfare Awards as an actor, and he has starred in the highest-grossing Hindi film of ten separate years — more than any other actor. He has hosted the reality show Bigg Boss since 2010, and promotes education and healthcare causes through his charity, the Being Human Foundation.

• Mother: Sushila Charak, who adopted the name Salma Khan
• Born to a Muslim father and a Hindu mother, he was brought up in both faiths.

• His paternal grandfather, Abdul Rashid Khan, was a Deputy Inspector General of the Indore state.

Being Human Foundation

Khan set up and initially self-funded the Being Human Foundation, a registered charitable trust working in two areas — education and healthcare. It raises money through Being Human merchandise, art and gold-coin initiatives. In 2011 he launched SKBH Productions (Salman Khan Being Human Productions), whose earnings are directed to the foundation; its first release, the children’s film Chillar Party, went on to win three National Film Awards.
