Vijay Deverakonda Biography

Deverakonda Vijay Sai (born 9 May 1989), known as Vijay Deverakonda, is an Indian actor and film producer who works in Telugu cinema. He was born in Hyderabad, then part of Andhra Pradesh and now in Telangana, to Govardhan Rao, a television serial director, and Madhavi. He completed his schooling at Sri Sathya Sai Higher Secondary School in Puttaparthi, studied Intermediate at Little Flower Junior College in Hyderabad, and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Badruka College of Commerce & Arts. His younger brother, Anand Deverakonda, is also an actor in Telugu cinema.

He made his debut in 2011 with Nuvvila, credited as Vijay Sai, and drew attention for his supporting role in the coming-of-age drama Yevade Subramanyam (2015), which brought him a Nandi Special Jury Award. Pelli Choopulu (2016) moved him into leading roles and Arjun Reddy (2017) made him a star, earning him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu. Geetha Govindam and Taxiwaala followed in 2018, with a SIIMA Award for Best Actor (Critics) for the former. His later work includes Dear Comrade (2019), Liger (2022), Kushi (2023), The Family Star (2024), a cameo in Kalki 2898 AD (2024) and Kingdom (2025). He is currently filming Rowdy Janardhana and Ranabaali.

He married actress Rashmika Mandanna in 2026; the two had earlier co-starred in Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade. Two legal matters involving him have been reported. In June 2025 a case under the SC/ST Act was filed over comments he was alleged to have made about tribal communities following the Pahalgam attack. On 11 November 2025 he and actor Prakash Raj were questioned by the Crime Investigation Department in connection with an investigation into the alleged promotion of online betting apps; that investigation was reported as ongoing. Neither matter has produced a finding against him.
