Best OTT Platforms in India 2026: Price & Plans Guide
Before you pick from the best OTT platforms in India, here’s the number that should decide how you spend your money this year. India has 664.9 million OTT viewers, which is 45% of the population. Only 172.6 million of those are active paid subscriptions, according to the Ormax OTT Audience Report 2026.
Do the math. Fewer than one in four Indian streamers actually pay for anything.
So this isn’t a feature race. It’s a value-for-money call made by a small paying minority who are, frankly, already paying too much. Most of you are running three subscriptions and watching two of them.
This guide fixes that. Every price below is the current 2026 rate, tier by tier, plus the part the generic pricing blogs skip: which platform actually carries the stuff you watch.
Best OTT platforms in India: prices at a glance
| Platform | Cheapest paid plan | Best annual value | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| JioHotstar | ₹79/month (Mobile) | ₹499/year (Mobile) | IPL, live cricket, Hindi mass entertainers |
| Netflix | ₹149/month (Mobile) | Monthly rates only | Global originals, K-drama, prestige series |
| Prime Video | ₹99/month (Mobile) | ₹1,499/year (full Prime) | One-subscription households |
| SonyLIV | ₹399/month | ₹1,499/year (~₹125/month) | Crime dramas, Indian originals, 4K on a budget |
| ZEE5 | ₹99/month (one language) | ₹699/year (one language) | Regional-language viewers |
Two things jump out of that table. JioHotstar is the cheapest way into paid streaming in the country. And SonyLIV’s annual plan is quietly the cheapest 4K tier of the lot.
Netflix India plans: still the priciest, still hard to drop
Netflix India sells monthly only, so every tier below is a per-month rate. You pay again, every month, forever.
- Mobile — ₹149/month. 480p, one device. Phone and tablet only.
- Basic — ₹199/month. 720p, one device.
- Standard — ₹499/month. 1080p, two simultaneous streams.
- Premium — ₹649/month. 4K with HDR, four devices, six downloads.
Every tier is ad-free and includes Netflix’s games, per Netflix’s own India help page. Spatial audio only lands on Premium.
₹649 a month is ₹7,788 a year. That’s five times what a full Prime membership costs. Netflix knows it, and prices confidently anyway, because nobody else is releasing a Korean thriller you’ll finish in one weekend.
Verdict: Paisa vasool only if you’re actually watching Netflix originals weekly. If you opened it twice last month, drop to Mobile or cancel. Our Netflix vs SonyLIV comparison for K-drama fans breaks down that specific fight in detail.
Amazon Prime Video India: the best-value all-rounder
Prime Video isn’t sold as a standalone product in the way people assume. You’re buying a full Prime membership, and video comes attached to shopping and music benefits.
- ₹299/month
- ₹599 for three months
- ₹1,499/year — the one that makes sense
- Prime Lite — ₹799/year, single device, HD with ads, no reading or gaming perks
- Prime Video Mobile — ₹99/month
₹1,499 a year is roughly ₹125 a month for a library that spans Hollywood, Bollywood and a deep South Indian catalogue.
One catch you need to know about. Since June 17, 2025, the standard Prime Video plan shows limited ads by default, as Amazon India confirmed. Killing those ads costs another ₹699/year or ₹129/month. Add that on and your ₹1,499 becomes ₹2,198.
Verdict: If you’re only ever going to pay for one platform, this is it. The ad add-on, though? Skip it. Ads on Prime are short and you’ll survive.
JioHotstar subscription price 2026: the cheap seat just got complicated
JioHotstar rewrote its pricing on January 28, 2026. The headline rate is still the lowest in the market, but the fine print changed.
Mobile — ₹79/month, ₹149 for three months, ₹499/year. One device. Super — ₹149/month, ₹349 for three months, ₹1,099/year. Two devices, Hollywood included. Premium — ₹299/month, ₹699 for three months, ₹2,199/year. Four devices, ad-free except during live sports.
Here’s the sting. On the Mobile tier, Hollywood content is now a separate paid add-on at ₹49, ₹129 or ₹399. So the ₹79 plan isn’t the all-you-can-eat deal it looks like. Want English-language titles? You’re on Super or above.
There’s good news for anyone already subscribed. If your auto-renewal stays active, you keep your old pre-hike price. The new rates apply only to fresh sign-ups from January 28 onward. Cancel and come back later and you’ll pay 2026 money.
And the obvious point: JioHotstar is the exclusive home of the IPL and most India international cricket. During April and May, that alone sells more Premium subscriptions than any original series ever will. We ranked it against its two biggest rivals in Netflix vs Prime Video vs JioHotstar.
Verdict: Total paisa vasool during cricket season. Slightly annoying the rest of the year if you’re on Mobile.
SonyLIV subscription plans: the underrated 4K bargain
Nobody puts SonyLIV first in these lists. They should look at the annual price again.
- Premium monthly — ₹399. 4K UHD, Dolby Atmos, two simultaneous streams across up to five logins.
- Premium annual — ₹1,499. Same features, roughly ₹125/month.
- Mobile-only annual — ₹699. 720p, phone app only, ad-free.
₹125 a month for 4K and Dolby Atmos undercuts every other 4K tier here. Netflix Premium costs ₹649 for the same picture quality. That’s a five-fold difference for a platform whose crime and drama originals hold up against anything on the bigger apps.
Verdict: The smartest second subscription in India right now, if you buy annual. The ₹399 monthly rate is much harder to defend.
ZEE5 subscription price: the one that prices by language
ZEE5 does something none of the others do, and most round-ups completely miss it. It prices by language bundle, not just device count.
| ZEE5 pack | Monthly | Annual | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| All Languages | ₹299 | ₹2,099 | 4 devices, ad-free on annual |
| Hindi + Punjabi + Bhojpuri | ₹199 | ₹1,399 | North India focus |
| Single regional (Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam) | ₹99 | ₹699 | One language |
| Bangla + Odia | ₹99 | ₹699 | East India |
| Kids Access | ₹49 | ₹199 | Children’s catalogue |
₹699 a year. That’s ₹58 a month for a full Telugu or Tamil library. If you only ever watch one language, ZEE5 is the cheapest serious streaming deal in the country, and it isn’t close.
Most competitor guides flatten all of this into a single “ZEE5 costs ₹299” line. That line costs a Marathi-only viewer ₹1,400 a year in over-payment.
Verdict: Buy the language pack you’ll use. Ignore the All Languages tier unless your house really is multilingual.
Which OTT platform for what you actually watch
Pricing tables don’t decide anything. Libraries do. Here’s the honest split, with the rupee maths attached to each one.
Bollywood and Hindi cinema
JioHotstar and Prime Video split the big Hindi post-theatrical window between them, so those two cover most of what a mainstream Hindi viewer wants. On price, Prime wins the head-to-head: ₹1,499 a year buys the whole Prime membership, while JioHotstar Super costs ₹1,099 a year and JioHotstar Premium jumps to ₹2,199.
Netflix is the awkward one here. Because it sells monthly only, a year on the cheapest Mobile tier costs ₹1,788 — more than a full Prime membership, for 480p on a single phone. A year on Standard runs to ₹5,988.
ZEE5’s Hindi + Punjabi + Bhojpuri pack is the volume play. At ₹199/month or ₹1,399/year it gets you a huge back catalogue of Hindi serials and films, though not the marquee theatrical titles. Our own take: pair Prime annual with that ZEE5 Hindi pack and you’ve covered Hindi viewing for about ₹2,900 a year, which is half of one Netflix Standard year.
South Indian cinema
Start with the sourced fact, because it decides most budgets: ZEE5 sells Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Marathi as standalone packs at ₹99/month or ₹699/year. Nothing else on this list prices a single South Indian language that low.
If you want more than one regional app, OTTplay’s Simply South bundle at ₹1,199/year covers 16 regional services including ZEE5, Aha and Sun NXT — under ₹75 per app per year.
Our own call, and we’ll flag it as opinion rather than a sourced stat: Prime Video and JioHotstar land more of the big South theatrical premieres after their run ends, so a serious Telugu or Tamil film watcher usually wants one of them alongside a ZEE5 pack. If you’re tracking what’s actually pulling numbers, our list of the highest-grossing South Indian movies of 2026 tells you which titles are heading to streaming next.
Hollywood and international
Netflix and Prime Video, comfortably. On JioHotstar, remember that Hollywood is now a separate ₹49 to ₹399 add-on on the Mobile tier — so the ₹499/year Mobile plan can quietly become ₹898 a year if you want English-language films. Super at ₹1,099/year includes Hollywood outright and costs less than the workaround.
K-drama
Netflix first, SonyLIV second — and that’s a preference, not a ranking anyone can prove with a table. What we can put numbers on is the gap in cost. SonyLIV Premium annual is ₹1,499 a year for 4K and Dolby Atmos. Netflix Standard, at ₹499/month, adds up to ₹5,988 a year and still caps you at 1080p.
If Korean drama is a weekly habit, pay for Netflix and accept the price. If it’s an occasional binge, SonyLIV annual costs about a quarter as much and doubles as your general Indian-drama app.
Anime
Anime is the one genre none of the five plans above is built for, so we handled it separately in our guide to the best anime streaming platform in India.
Live sports
JioHotstar. There isn’t a debate. IPL and India’s international cricket live there, and no rival platform can sell you that.
The real question is which tier. Mobile at ₹499/year gets you one phone, which is fine for a commute and miserable for a Sunday final. Super at ₹1,099/year is the sweet spot: two devices, roughly ₹92 a month, Hollywood thrown in. Premium at ₹2,199/year buys four devices and 4K, which matters if the family watches together on a big TV.
One thing to set expectations on. Even Premium is ad-free except during live sports, so you’ll still sit through breaks in a run chase. Every other platform on this page costs you money and gives you no cricket at all, so the comparison is short.
OTT combo plans India: how to stack platforms without stacking bills
If you want four or five apps, buying them individually is the expensive way. Two smarter routes exist.
Aggregators. OTTplay bundles dozens of apps into one payment:
- Power Play — ₹299/month or ₹2,999/year, 27 to 28 apps including SonyLIV, Lionsgate Play and FanCode
- Jhakaas — ₹199/month, ₹549/quarter or ₹1,499/year, 21 apps
- Simply South — ₹199/month or ₹1,199/year, 16 regional apps including ZEE5, Aha and Sun NXT
- Totally Sorted — ₹249/month or ₹1,199/year, 8 English-language apps
- Lite — ₹30/month for 9 apps
Run the per-app maths and the pitch gets obvious. Power Play at ₹2,999/year across 28 apps is about ₹107 per app per year. Jhakaas at ₹1,499/year across 21 apps drops to roughly ₹71 per app per year — the same money as one SonyLIV annual subscription, spread across twenty more services. Totally Sorted is the weakest ratio at ₹1,199 for 8 apps, or ₹150 each, and Lite is the outlier at ₹30/month for 9 apps.
Two warnings before you get excited. Aggregator bundles rarely include Netflix, and the big-name apps inside them are often the mobile-only or ad-supported variants rather than the full premium tier. Check the tier, not just the app count.
Even so, Jhakaas at ₹1,499 a year is the best apps-per-rupee deal in this whole guide. Buying SonyLIV, ZEE5 All Languages and a couple of smaller services separately would cost you well past ₹3,500.
Telecom bundles. Your recharge already pays for streaming, and plenty of people never activate it. Jio’s ₹1,099 84-day prepaid plan bundles Netflix Mobile plus JioCinema. Vi’s Hero plans start at ₹696 and throw in Amazon Prime Lite along with either JioHotstar or SonyLIV. Since Prime Lite alone costs ₹799/year, a ₹696 Vi recharge that includes it plus a second app is doing real work. Check your operator’s app before you buy anything separately.
This is also where that 172.6 million paid-subscriptions figure gets interesting. It counts telecom-bundle and aggregator subscriptions. A big chunk of paying India never visited a streaming app’s checkout page at all.
How to choose: a 60-second decision framework
Answer these four questions honestly.
1. Do you watch live cricket? Yes means JioHotstar, non-negotiable. Super at ₹1,099/year is the sweet spot.
2. Do you finish at least one new series a month? No means you don’t need Netflix. Take Prime at ₹1,499/year and stop there.
3. Do you watch mostly in one Indian language? Buy that ZEE5 pack at ₹699/year and save four figures.
4. Do you own a 4K TV? SonyLIV annual gives you 4K and Dolby Atmos at ₹125/month. Netflix charges ₹649 for the same resolution.
| If your priority is… | Buy this | Yearly cost |
|---|---|---|
| Cheapest possible entry | JioHotstar Mobile | ₹499 |
| One app for the whole family | Prime (full membership) | ₹1,499 |
| One language only | ZEE5 single-language pack | ₹699 |
| 4K on a budget | SonyLIV Premium annual | ₹1,499 |
| Maximum apps per rupee | OTTplay Jhakaas | ₹1,499 |
| Live cricket + Hollywood | JioHotstar Super | ₹1,099 |
The connected-TV audience grew 60% this year to 206.9 million people, and total active paid subscriptions rose 16%. Streaming in India is getting more expensive and more crowded at the same time. Your defence is buying annual and buying deliberately.
So what should you actually pay for?
Two subscriptions. That’s the answer for almost everyone reading this.
Take one broad library, which is Prime Video at ₹1,499/year for most households. Then add one specialist that matches your obsession: JioHotstar Super if cricket runs your calendar, SonyLIV annual if you want 4K and hard-edged Indian dramas, ZEE5’s language pack if you watch in Telugu or Bangla or Marathi.
Total damage: roughly ₹2,200 to ₹2,600 a year. That’s less than four months of Netflix Premium.
Cancel the third app. You already know which one it is. It’s the one you last opened in February.
