Gajab Raat OTT Release: Where to Watch Manoj Bajpayee’s Film
The Gajab Raat OTT release is finally here, and you don’t need a movie ticket for this one. Manoj Bajpayee’s crime thriller dropped straight on Netflix on 23 October 2026. It got there after an FIR, a Supreme Court remark and a full name change.
Yes, this is the film you first heard about as Ghooskhor Pandat. New title, same team. It’s also Neeraj Pandey and Bajpayee’s first collaboration in nearly a decade.
Quick answers first. Then the messy stuff: a cast list the internet can’t agree on, and the title row that kept this film under wraps for months.

Gajab Raat Cast and Crew (Plus the Credit Mix-Up)
Netflix’s own release names six actors:
- Manoj Bajpayee as Ajay Dixit, a corrupt cop
- Saqib Saleem
- Akshay Oberoi
- Divya Dutta
- Kiku Sharda
- Nushrratt Bharuccha
Behind the camera:
- Director: Ritesh Shah, in his directorial debut
- Creator: Neeraj Pandey
- Production: Friday Film Works, Pandey’s company
Now the confusion. Some outlets add Shraddha Das to the cast. The Week lists her alongside Bharuccha, while Analytics Insight points out that reports keep swapping the two names. Our rule is simple. Go with Netflix’s list, and Netflix names Bharuccha.
Mix-up number two: a lot of posts call this “Neeraj Pandey’s film” as if he directed it. He didn’t. Ritesh Shah directs, and Pandey creates and produces. Even Shah calls it “a Neeraj Pandey film” in Netflix’s release, so you can see where the blur starts.
The history doesn’t help either. Pandey directed Bajpayee in Special 26 and Aiyaary, and he produced Naam Shabana. His Netflix work so far includes Khakee, Sikandar Ka Muqaddar and Taskaree. Skipped that last one? Our Taskaree review has you covered.
What Is Gajab Raat About?
Netflix keeps the official synopsis tight. A police officer must choose between personal gain and what he believes is right. The whole story plays out over one night, and a single decision sets off a chain of consequences.
The Week fills in more. Bajpayee’s Ajay Dixit is a corrupt cop. The case kicks off when someone throws a young girl from a fast-moving vehicle. His investigation then pulls him into conflicting statements, alleged international conspiracies and bribes. Analytics Insight places the action in Delhi.
Here’s how Pandey pitches it:
“Gajab Raat is a thriller where the choices that people make push them to a point where there are no easy answers.” — Neeraj Pandey, creator
Ek raat. Dirty cop. One bad call. It’s a classic setup, and it lives or dies on the man in the lead. After his turn in Governor: The Silent Saviour, we’re not worried about that part.
Why Ghooskhor Pandat Became Gajab Raat
The Gajab Raat OTT release took a long, bumpy road. The Week’s report lays out the full sequence:
- The original title: Ghooskhor Pandat. Critics and groups said it unfairly targeted a community by tying it to corruption.
- February 2026: Uttar Pradesh Police lodged an FIR against the filmmakers at Lucknow’s Hazratganj station. The complaint alleged the film hurt religious and caste sentiments.
- The Supreme Court remark: the court said “freedom of speech cannot be used as a licence to denigrate a section of society.”
- The affidavit: Neeraj Pandey filed one, withdrawing the original title.
- The quiet months: the film stayed under wraps, then resurfaced as Gajab Raat.
- 15 October: the official trailer dropped.
- 23 October: Netflix premiere.
Bajpayee didn’t dodge the topic. He said the film follows a flawed individual and doesn’t represent any caste, religion or community. He added that the team changed the title out of respect for public sentiment. He also condemned the online toxicity aimed at his family, which frankly should never have happened.
Our two paise? The new name suits the film better. “Gajab Raat” sells exactly what Netflix’s synopsis promises: one strange, long night.
Gajab Raat Verdict: Paisa Vasool Ya Time Waste?
Full honesty first. When we wrote this on 24 October, we couldn’t find a single critics’ review. Netflix still hadn’t shared a runtime either. So this is a first-impression call built on the premise and the team’s track record. It’s not a watched review.
Why we’re leaning Paisa Vasool:
- Bajpayee as a morally grey cop. This role sits right in his zone. His own line in the Netflix release says it: “I have always been drawn to characters who are not easy to define.”
- Pandey’s thriller pedigree. The man behind Special 26 and Aiyaary created this one.
- The one-night clock. A tight time window usually keeps a thriller lean.
- A solid bench. Divya Dutta alone can lift a weak scene, and Saqib Saleem gives the cast extra muscle.
Why we’re keeping one eyebrow raised:
- A first-time director. Ritesh Shah is making his debut here, and debuts can wobble.
- The long delay. Films that sit on the shelf after a controversy sometimes come out with an uneven edit. We have zero evidence of that here. Treat it as a flag, not a fact.
Early verdict: Paisa Vasool, most likely. If you enjoyed Pandey’s earlier Netflix thrillers, the Gajab Raat OTT release is an easy pick for tonight. If you only press play after the reviews land, give it a few days.
