The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 5: Guests, Time, Verdict
The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 5 is streaming now, and one Saturday in, people are already split. Kapil Sharma kicked things off on September 26 with Ajay Devgn and the Drishyam gang on the couch. One big review site called it flat. The makers had promised a festival of comedy.
So who’s right? We’ve got the schedule, every confirmed guest, the names still waiting for a date, and a straight answer on whether this season earns your Saturday night.
The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 5 premiere: what went down on Sept 26
Season 5 dropped on Netflix on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 8 PM. That ends a six-month gap. Season 4 ran from December 20, 2025 to March 14, 2026. It had 13 episodes, and Priyanka Chopra opened it.
This time, the makers went straight for a blockbuster crowd. The first episode brought in the Drishyam: The Conclusion team, led by Ajay Devgn. Even the episode title carried the season’s theme: “Hasi Ka Tyo-ha-ha-har.”
Why come back at all? Kapil told Outlook India:
“Every season, we think we have done enough masti, and then we realise that we are not done yet! And somewhere I feel that’s what keeps us going.”
We like the energy. Whether the jokes keep up is a different question.
Release date, time and where to watch in India
The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 5 runs on a simple schedule, which is honestly a relief:
- Premiere: Saturday, September 26, 2026
- New episodes: every Saturday
- Time: 8 PM IST
- Platform: Netflix, exclusively
- Total episodes: not announced yet (Season 4 had 13)
It streams only on Netflix, so you’ll need an active plan. Not sure your subscription is pulling its weight? Our OTT platforms price and plans guide compares the big services in India.
Next date to circle: Saturday, October 3. That’s Episode 2.
Episode 1 guests: the Drishyam: The Conclusion cast
Ep 1 went full ensemble. Per Adgully’s premiere report, here’s who turned up:
- Ajay Devgn
- Shriya Saran
- Jaideep Ahlawat
- Ishita Dutta
- Mrunal Jadhav
- Abhishek Pathak, the director
That’s a serious-thriller crowd on a comedy stage. Ajay isn’t exactly a chatterbox either. Sidhu summed him up in one line: “Bolta nahi, par jab bolta hai jaandaar, wazandaar.”
Roughly: he doesn’t say much, but when he does, it lands. Keep that line in mind. It ended up describing the whole episode.
Ajay had already unveiled the film’s first look, so this was as much a promo stop as a chat. Still chewing on how Drishyam 3 ends? Our Drishyam 3 ending explained goes deep, spoilers and all.
The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 5 guest lineup so far
Most sites cover one episode at a time. Here’s the whole tracker in one place, split into what’s confirmed and what’s only announced.
Episode 1: aired Saturday, Sept 26
The Drishyam: The Conclusion cast, listed above.
Episode 2: Saturday, Oct 3, 8 PM
According to Filmibeat, the cast of The Vvaan: Force of the Forrest takes the couch next:
- Sidharth Malhotra
- Tamannaah Bhatia
- Shweta Tiwari
- Anup Soni
- Maniesh Paul
Tamannaah praised Kapil and Maniesh for their clean humour. Honestly, this one looks livelier on paper than the premiere did.
Announced, but no episode yet
Adgully’s premiere report also named these upcoming guests, with no episode numbers or dates:
- Zakir Khan
- Pankaj Tripathi
- Ravi Shastri
- Sunil Gavaskar
So yes, the cricket legends are coming, per that report. Nobody has pinned them to a specific Saturday, though. When Outlook broke the premiere news on September 16, Netflix hadn’t even revealed the full guest list. Take any “Shastri and Gavaskar in Episode X” claim you see online with a pinch of salt.
The regular gang: who’s back
The core team is intact:
- Kapil Sharma, as host
- Sunil Grover
- Krushna Abhishek
- Kiku Sharda
- Archana Puran Singh
- Navjot Singh Sidhu
Archana keeps her permanent guest panelist chair. The format hasn’t budged: it’s a Hindi sketch-comedy talk show. Per Wikipedia, the set looks like an airport terminal, with a waiting area, kiosks and a “Kap’s” cafe.
Six regulars plus a fresh star lineup every week. On paper, that’s a lot of firepower for one Saturday slot.
What is “Hasi Ka Tyohaar”?
It’s the festive theme of The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 5. Outlook reports it as “Hansi Ka TyoHAHAar”, which basically means a festival of comedy. You’ll also spot “Hasi Ka Tyohaar” and “Hassi Ka Tyohaar” online. Same thing, different spellings.
The theme ties the season to the holiday calendar. Season 5 embraces both Diwali and Christmas, so expect diyas now and fairy lights later. With a new episode every Saturday from late September, the show should ride right through festive season.
Paisa Vasool Ya Time Waste? Our verdict on The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 5 so far
Start with the harshest take. Koimoi’s Episode 1 review ran with this headline: “If This Is The Hasi Ka Tyo-ha-ha-ha-haar Kapil Sharma Promised, Probably I Don’t Know How To Laugh!” Ouch.
The reviewer wrote that “nothing actually lands in the opening episode.” Their other gripes:
- Sunil Grover’s Ajay Devgn impression misfired
- The show has a case of format fatigue
- The writers keep leaning on stale jokes about Archana Puran Singh
Koimoi did find bright spots, though. Ajay’s dry one-liners worked. And the Sona-Mona bit from Krushna and Kiku got the only real laughs.
Remember Sidhu’s line? Doesn’t talk much, but when he does, it lands. That’s pretty much what happened.
Our take: the format fatigue complaint is fair. Five seasons in, you can see the beats coming. But nobody watches Kapil for surprises. It’s a comfort show. You put it on after Saturday dinner, laugh hard at two bits, and forget the rest by Monday.
So, Paisa Vasool Ya Time Waste? Time pass, with a few paisa vasool moments. The premiere leaned on one reluctant star. Episode 2 brings a chattier-looking bunch, and that’s the real test. If the Vvaan gang can’t get the room going on October 3, the fatigue argument wins.
