Daayra vs Vibe Box Office Collection: Who Lost Less?
Nearly two weeks in, the Daayra vs Vibe box office collection fight has a leader. It doesn’t have a winner. Kunal Kemmu’s Vibe sits at ₹13.8 crore net after Day 11, while Kareena Kapoor’s Daayra has crawled to about ₹8 crore. Both opened on September 18. Both are losing money.
So yes, Vibe is ahead. But ahead here just means it bled slower.
Below: the latest scoreboard and the budget maths most trackers skip. Then the real story. How did a well-reviewed Meghna Gulzar thriller hand Kareena the weakest opening weekend of her career?
Daayra vs Vibe Box Office Collection: Where They Stand After Day 11
Quick verdict first. Vibe leads, and it isn’t close.
- Vibe: ₹13.8 crore India net and ₹18.33 crore worldwide gross after Day 11, per Koimoi. Day 11 alone added just ₹0.25 crore, a 72% drop from Day 4.
- Daayra: ₹8.07 crore India net and ₹11.72 crore worldwide gross after Day 11, per Koimoi’s day-wise tracker. Overseas chipped in ₹2.2 crore.
That’s a gap of about ₹5.7 crore in India net. Koimoi’s call on Vibe is blunt: it’s “likely to end up as a losing affair.” And Daayra sits in a far deeper hole.
Day-Wise Collection Table: Daayra vs Vibe
Here’s the Daayra vs Vibe day-wise collection, side by side. All figures are India net in ₹ crore.
| Period / Timeline | Daayra (Koimoi) | Vibe (Bollywood Hungama) |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 (Fri, Sept 18) | 1.15 cr | 1.65 cr |
| Days 2–3 (Sat–Sun) | 4.48 cr | 4.93 cr |
| Opening Weekend | 5.63 cr | 6.58 cr |
| Days 4–7 (Mon–Thu) | 1.80 cr | 3.28 cr |
| Week 1 Total | 7.43 cr | 9.86 cr |
| Day 8 (Fri, Sept 25) | grouped below | 0.45 cr |
| Latest Total (Day 11) | ₹8.07 cr | ₹13.8 cr (Koimoi report) |
Daayra’s Days 8–11 added only ₹0.64 crore combined. The grouped rows are our own sums from each tracker’s daily numbers.
Now look at Monday. Daayra went from ₹2.3 crore on Sunday to ₹0.5 crore on Day 4. That’s a fall of nearly 78%, and it’s the sound of word of mouth not showing up.
Vibe held steadier for a while. Its second Friday (₹0.45 crore) slipped just 11.76% from Thursday’s ₹0.51 crore. It crossed ₹10 crore after Day 8. Then the second week faded too.
Why no two trackers agree on Daayra
Pick a site and you’ll get a different Daayra total. Seriously.
| Tracking Source | India Collection | Worldwide Collection |
|---|---|---|
| Koimoi Day 11 | ₹8.07 cr net | ₹11.72 cr gross |
| IWMBuzz (Sept 28) | ₹6.90 cr net | ₹10.41 cr gross |
| Wikipedia | ₹6.54 cr domestic | ₹8.36 cr |
| Pinkvilla (Week 1) | ₹5.60 cr net | — (unreported) |
Even Day 1 splits: ₹1 crore per Pinkvilla, IWMBuzz and Onmanorama, ₹1.15 crore per Koimoi. IWMBuzz itself quoted a net range of ₹5.49–7.62 crore. Wondering why this keeps happening? We broke it down in how box office collection is calculated in India. The short version: every Daayra vs Vibe box office collection figure shifts by source, but the verdict doesn’t.
Daayra Box Office: Kareena Kapoor’s Lowest Opening Weekend
On paper, Daayra had everything. Meghna Gulzar directing. Kareena as DCP Ajooni Kohli. Prithviraj Sukumaran as DCP Raman Kumar. A Hindi and Malayalam release.
Then Friday happened. Pinkvilla logged a “poor” ₹1 crore nett opening and said the film “will need consistent growth to build momentum.” It never got that growth. Pinkvilla’s first-week total landed at ₹5.60 crore, with Monday to Thursday adding only ₹1.50 crore. Their one-word label? “DISMAL.”
Wikipedia’s Daayra page notes the film marked Kapoor’s lowest opening weekend in her filmography. That’s a brutal line for a star of her standing.
Prithviraj won’t enjoy this either. Onmanorama points out that his earlier Hindi films, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (2024) and Sarzameen (2025), also underperformed. Three in a row stings.
Vibe Box Office: Ahead, but Still a Flop?
Vibe had a better start. Bollywood Hungama clocked ₹1.65 crore on Day 1, ₹6.58 crore over the opening weekend and ₹9.86 crore in week one.
The action-comedy also had a hook: Preity Zinta’s acting comeback after six years. Kunal Kemmu directs.
But here’s the uncomfortable comparison for Kemmu. Koimoi says Vibe trails his earlier directorial, Madgaon Express, by 62%. That film made ₹36.81 crore domestic. At ₹0.25 crore a day, Vibe won’t get anywhere near it.
So is it a flop? Yes. Just a gentler one than Daayra.
Hit or Flop: Budget vs Collection Reality Check
This is where the Daayra vs Vibe box office collection gap really shows.
| Metric / Parameter | Daayra | Vibe |
|---|---|---|
| Reported Budget | ₹50–55 cr | ₹35 cr Koimoi |
| India Net, Day 11 | ₹8.07 cr | ₹13.8 cr |
| Net vs Budget (Recovery) | ~15–16% | 39.43% |
| Commercial Verdict | Flop |
Flop, but softer |
Vibe’s 39.43% comes straight from Koimoi. Daayra’s 15–16% is our own maths, using Koimoi’s net against the ₹50–55 crore budget listed on Wikipedia. Onmanorama puts the budget at ₹50 crore, which barely changes the picture.
One caveat. Net collection against budget isn’t the same as what producers actually recover. Non-theatrical rights count too, as our explainer on how the movie break-even point works in India shows. Still, no rights deal turns 15% into a hit.
Why Good Reviews Didn’t Save Daayra
Critics mostly liked it. Daayra scored 74% positive on Rotten Tomatoes from 19 critics, with a 6.6/10 average. Not everyone bought in, though. One critic wrote that the “cat-and-mouse tension…never quite materialises.”
Reviews weren’t the problem. IWMBuzz lists the real ones:
- Almost no pre-release buzz. People barely knew it was coming.
- The “OTT content” tag. Audiences saw a serious cop procedural and decided to wait for streaming. Pinkvilla flagged the same perception.
- A crowded week. Daayra clashed with Hanuman Ansh and Mirzapur: The Movie.
- The Monday crash. Collections fell by over 60–70% on its first Monday, per IWMBuzz.
Honestly, the OTT point hurts most. Two DCPs, a slow-burn case, Kareena in a sober role. That’s exactly the film people now save for a quiet night at home. No poster was going to change that.
Paisa Vasool Ya Time Waste? Which Should You Watch
The critic scores throw up a funny split. Vibe hit 82% on Rotten Tomatoes, but its average sits at 6/10. More critics found it fine; fewer loved it. Daayra drew fewer fans, but the ones it had rated it higher.
The box office tells you what audiences picked. Here’s what we’d pick.
- Vibe: Paisa vasool for a group outing this weekend, if it’s still playing near you. Just don’t expect Madgaon Express.
- Daayra: Not worth today’s ticket price, but not a bad film either. Wait for it to stream. Our guide to the OTT release window in India explains roughly how long that usually takes.
Here’s what bugs us, though. Kareena, Prithviraj and Meghna Gulzar together couldn’t push a decently reviewed thriller past ₹10 crore net in India. So what does a mid-budget Hindi film need to open in 2026? Tell us in the comments. We’re stumped.
