KBC Season 18 Premiere: Big B, Sunny, Preity & Aamir
Nine o’clock. That music. That voice. The KBC Season 18 premiere landed on Sony Entertainment Television tonight, August 10, 2026, and Amitabh Bachchan walked back into the hot seat like he never left. Eighteen seasons. Same man, same chair, same “Lock kiya jaaye?” reflex that makes half of India shout answers at the TV.
But Sony didn’t open quietly. Episode one had Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta and Aamir Khan on the floor, a brand-new set, a bigger episode order, and a season tagline that basically warns you the questions got harder.
Here’s everything that actually happened, in the order you care about.
What just happened on premiere night
The show returned at 9 pm IST on August 10, 2026, and it runs Monday to Friday from here on, on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV. Bachchan hosts, as Tribune India confirmed when the shoot began.
Quick facts before we get into it:
- Premiere: August 10, 2026, 9 pm
- Host: Amitabh Bachchan
- Theme: Is Baar… Sochna Padega
- Top prize: Rs 7 crore
- Watch on: Sony Entertainment Television, Sony LIV
- Opening guests: Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Aamir Khan
Amitabh Bachchan’s return, and why this one feels different
Bachchan has hosted this show since it first aired in July 2000. At this point KBC isn’t a TV format for him, it’s a second career.
Shooting started on August 1, 2026, on a specially designed new set at Film City, Mumbai. Brut Media’s Season 18 guide also ties the relaunch window to August 2, the date fans mark as Bachchan’s “rebirth day” after his near-fatal accident on the sets of Coolie in 1982. That’s the publication’s framing, not an official Sony line, but honestly? It’s a nice bit of symmetry.

Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta and Aamir Khan: the Batwara 1947 angle
This is the bit everyone clipped. Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta took the hot seat on the opening episode, and Aamir Khan joined them, as India TV News reported when the promo dropped.
Why the three of them together? Batwara 1947. Rajkumar Santoshi directs it, Aamir Khan produces it, and Deol and Zinta headline it alongside Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol and Ali Fazal. The film hits theatres on August 14, 2026, four days after the premiere. So no, this wasn’t a random reunion. It was a perfectly timed promo run, and Sony got a star trio out of it.
That also explains the seating chart. Deol and Zinta play in the film, so they played the game. Khan produces it, so he stayed off the hot seat and did the talking.
In the promo, Khan asks Bachchan about the new theme, and Bachchan tells him this season won’t be easy, that contestants will genuinely have to think before answering. Which brings us to the tagline.
What’s new in Season 18: theme, prize, and a fresh set
“Is Baar… Sochna Padega.” This time, you’ll have to think.
Bachchan explained it himself: “Bachpan mein humein sikhaya gaya tha ki jo pehle jawab de, sabse sahi wahi hai. Lekin zindagi mein kai baar, pehla jawab hi sahi nahi hota.” The show’s argument is simple. Every fact sits in your pocket now. Recall is cheap. So Season 18 pushes contestants toward patience and reasoning instead of speed.
The top prize stays at Rs 7 crore. The season also got bigger behind the scenes: Storyboard18 reported a 120-episode order, up from 100 last season, with 85 to 90 percent of ad inventory sold to more than 20 sponsors before the premiere even aired. Sony’s Akshay Agrawal called KBC “among India’s most trusted and credible platforms.” Translation: advertisers still queue up for this show, and the numbers back them.

Paisa Vasool Ya Time Waste?
Paisa vasool, easily.
A quiz show surviving eighteen seasons in a market this restless is absurd, and yet here we are, watching Sunny Deol sweat over a Rs 7 crore ladder on a Monday night. The “Sochna Padega” pivot is a smarter reinvention than most reality formats attempt. If the questions really do slow contestants down, this season could be the most watchable KBC in years.
