Street Fighter Movie 2026: Release Date, Cast, Plot Guide

Street Fighter Movie 2026: Release Date, Cast, Plot Guide
By AYC Editorial Desk 9 min read

Hadouken season is finally here. The Street Fighter movie 2026 landed in Indian theatres on Friday, 16 October. That’s the same day as the rest of the world. And it didn’t come alone: you can watch it in English, Hindi, Tamil or Telugu.

For desi fans, there’s one more reason to care. Vidyut Jammwal plays Dhalsim, the yogi from India who breathes fire and stretches his limbs across the screen. Nobody has played him in live action since Roshan Seth in the 1994 film. That’s a 32-year wait.

So who plays whom? What’s the story? How did Day 1 go in India, and when does it hit OTT? Answers below, round by round. Fair warning on the last one: nobody knows yet.

Street Fighter Movie 2026 at a Glance

Short on time? Here’s the fight card.

  • Release date in India: 16 October 2026, in cinemas
  • Languages: English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu
  • Director: Kitao Sakurai (Bad Trip)
  • Studios: Paramount Pictures and Legendary Entertainment, with Capcom co-financing alongside Legendary
  • Setting: 1993
  • Leads: Andrew Koji (Ryu), Noah Centineo (Ken Masters), Callina Liang (Chun-Li)
  • Tagline: “If they don’t, it’s GAME OVER”
  • Runtime and certificate: no source we checked confirms either one

One more thing. You may spot an old listing online that claims a 20 March 2026 date and Sony as the distributor. Ignore it. The 16 October date held from the September 2025 announcement all the way to release day.

Street Fighter Release Date in India: 16 October, Four Languages

Paramount and Legendary didn’t make Indian fans wait for a staggered release. The Street Fighter movie 2026 opened here on 16 October, right alongside its global rollout.

Variety India confirmed the four language versions back in September, when the new trailer dropped. So English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu shows all started on day one.

Street Fighter Movie Cast: Who Plays Whom

The Street Fighter movie 2026 cast list is pure chaos, and we mean that as a compliment. Nerdtropolis has the most complete roster, and Gfinity and The Sixth Axis back up most of it. Here’s the line-up:

  • Andrew Koji as Ryu
  • Noah Centineo as Ken Masters
  • Callina Liang as Chun-Li
  • Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim
  • Jason Momoa as Blanka
  • Cody Rhodes as Guile
  • David Dastmalchian as M. Bison
  • Roman Reigns (Joe Anoa’i) as Akuma
  • Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog
  • Orville Peck as Vega
  • Olivier Richters as Zangief
  • Hirooki Goto as E. Honda
  • Mel Jarnson as Cammy
  • Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki
  • Eric Andre as Don Sauvage
  • Rayna Vallandingham as Juli
  • Alexander Volkanovski as Joe

Kyle Mooney is in the film too. Gfinity lists him as Marvin, but the other outlets don’t give him a role. Treat that one as unconfirmed for now.

The Core Trio: Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li

Big names fill this list, but the story rests on three people. Andrew Koji’s Ryu and Noah Centineo’s Ken are the estranged pair at the centre. Callina Liang’s Chun-Li is the one who drags them back into the ring.

Everyone else orbits that trio, Momoa’s Blanka and Dastmalchian’s M. Bison included. Our quick take? Momoa as Blanka will win the meme wars. Jammwal as Dhalsim is the one India will cheer loudest for.

Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim: The Desi Connection

Dhalsim first showed up in Street Fighter II back in 1991. He’s a yogi from India, famous for fire attacks, teleportation and those absurd stretchy limbs.

Per The Hollywood Reporter India, Jammwal is the first live-action Dhalsim since Roshan Seth in 1994. Jammwal has trained in Kalaripayattu and does his own stunts. That suits a character who fights with his whole body.

Dark Horizons reported his casting in July 2025. Filming was due to start in Australia the following month.

Here’s the fun bit. Jammwal admitted to The Hollywood Reporter India that he walked in cold:

“I hadn’t played the game till the time I got to know that I’d be playing Dhalsim.”

He made up for lost time fast, playing the game daily with several partners. And he clearly gets the character:

“Being the Indian yogi who uses breath as a weapon is very relevant to me.”

He sees Dhalsim as a yogi warrior, just like himself. Honestly? It’s the most natural fit in the whole cast.

Street Fighter Movie 2026 Plot: What We Know (No Spoilers)

The story takes place in 1993. Ryu and Ken Masters were once friends, but they’ve drifted apart. Then Chun-Li shows up and recruits both of them for the next World Warrior Tournament.

Of course, it’s never just a tournament. A deeper conspiracy forces the pair to face their own demons, and possibly each other. Hence that tagline: “If they don’t, it’s GAME OVER.”

The official synopsis doesn’t say which game the film adapts. But Street Fighter II gave us Dhalsim in 1991. A 1993 setting lands just two years after that.

That’s where we stop. The film is in theatres right now. If you want the twists, go buy a ticket.

Director and Crew: Kitao Sakurai, Legendary and Capcom

Kitao Sakurai directs. Fans know him best for Bad Trip. Going by the trailers, he’s picked fun over grit this time.

Paramount Pictures and Legendary Entertainment are the studios behind the film. Per The Sixth Axis, Capcom partnered with Legendary to finance production.

What about the writers, producers and composer? We couldn’t confirm any of them from a reliable source. Same story with the runtime. So we’re leaving those out instead of guessing.

Street Fighter Trailer: Bright, Loud and Over the Top

The marketing for the Street Fighter movie 2026 has sold one thing above all: fun. When an earlier trailer dropped in April 2026, /Film called it bright, over-the-top and “delightfully ridiculous.”

It also said the film looks far less serious than the recent Mortal Kombat movies. The one scene it singled out? Chun-Li yelling in front of fire.

That’s a very different flavour from the Mortal Kombat route. Our Mortal Kombat II review has our verdict on how that franchise is doing.

The second big push came in September 2026. Paramount and Legendary unveiled the new trailer in Tokyo, on the Shinjuku Yunika Vision screens. That event kicked off the global World Warrior Tour. Centineo, Koji, Liang and Momoa all showed up.

The studios also dropped something properly clever on YouTube. It’s a playable, full-length trailer called the “Street Fighter Combo Challenge.” Gamers, you know what to do.

Indian coverage zoomed in on Dhalsim, obviously. The Hollywood Reporter India said Jammwal’s action scenes stand out in the new trailer. Jammwal himself summed up the vibe best:

“Everything about it is hyperbole, and that’s what makes it fun.”

Will that tone split fans? Probably. If you wanted a gritty, bone-crunching take, this isn’t it.

Game Roots and the 1994 Van Damme Film

This isn’t Hollywood’s first shot at Street Fighter. Universal released the Van Damme film on 23 December 1994, with Roshan Seth as Dhalsim.

Here’s how that one did, per The Numbers:

  • Budget: $35 million
  • Opening weekend: about $9.5 million across 1,671 theatres
  • Domestic total: $33.4 million
  • International: $66 million
  • Worldwide: $99.4 million

Whatever you think of that film, it nearly tripled its budget worldwide. That’s the bar the new one is chasing.

Street Fighter 1994 vs Street Fighter Movie 2026

  • Dhalsim: Roshan Seth then, Vidyut Jammwal now
  • Studio: Universal then, Paramount and Legendary (with Capcom co-financing) now
  • Release date: 23 December 1994 then, 16 October 2026 now
  • Tone: the new trailers lean hard into silly, hyperbolic fun

So is the new film connected to the old one? Not that any source we checked says. It’s a fresh adaptation with a whole new cast. Different eras, same fire-breathing yogi.

Street Fighter Box Office Collection in India: Day 1 (Provisional)

So how did the Street Fighter movie 2026 open in India? These numbers come from Sacnilk, and they’re early. Sacnilk last updated its page at 12:06 AM IST on 17 October and calls the figures “so far”. Producer figures can differ.

Day 1 India total (Friday, 16 October):

  • Gross: ₹1.24 crore
  • Net: ₹1.05 crore
  • Shows: 2,156
  • Occupancy: 13.4%

Day 1 net by language:

  • English: ₹0.65 crore (786 shows, 18.2% occupancy)
  • Hindi: ₹0.36 crore (1,249 shows, 10.2% occupancy)
  • Tamil: ₹0.02 crore (51 shows)
  • Telugu: ₹0.02 crore (70 shows)

See the twist? Hindi got far more shows than English, 1,249 against 786. Yet English pulled in almost double the Hindi net. The Tamil and Telugu versions barely registered.

Do the per-show maths and the gap gets starker. Each English show made roughly ₹8,300 net on average. Each Hindi show made about ₹2,900. That’s nearly three times more per English show, and the occupancy split (18.2% vs 10.2%) tells the same story.

Is 13.4% opening-day occupancy good? It’s modest, no point pretending otherwise. New to the metric? Our occupancy rate guide explains how it works.

Still, one partial day doesn’t make a verdict. Overseas and worldwide numbers weren’t out yet either. Give it the weekend before you call it a hit or a flop.

Street Fighter Movie OTT Release: When Can You Stream It?

Short answer: the Street Fighter movie 2026 has no official streaming date yet. Not in India, not anywhere.

FandomWire reported back in April 2026 that the film will arrive on Paramount+. It guessed at a window between December 2026 and January 2027. If the film turned into a blockbuster, it suggested February or March 2027 instead. Nobody has confirmed any of that.

That report didn’t cover India specifically either, and no Indian platform has announced anything. Want a rough idea of how long Hollywood films usually take to stream here? Our OTT release window guide breaks it down.

Should You Book Street Fighter This Weekend?

We’ll save the full verdict for our review. But here’s how we’d call it right now.

Book it if you grew up mashing buttons on Street Fighter II. Same goes if you just want Dhalsim breathing fire on a big screen with a loud crowd around you. The trailers promise a silly, hyperbolic ride, and this cast is a fan-service buffet.

Skip it if you wanted a dark, serious martial arts saga. That’s not the film the Street Fighter movie 2026 is trying to be.

Torn on language? Day 1 audiences voted with their wallets for the English version. We’d go with them.

Thirty-two years after Roshan Seth, Dhalsim is back on the big screen. This time a Kalaripayattu-trained actor does his own stunts behind the fire. First day first show, or are you holding out for OTT?
