Dupahiya Season 2 Review: Paisa Vasool Ya Time Waste?
By AYC Editorial Desk 6 min read

Dhadakpur is back, and the village still can’t keep its drama in check. Prime Video dropped Dupahiya Season 2 on October 1, and the early Dupahiya Season 2 review scores look oddly unanimous. Three critics. Three 3/5 ratings.

So is that a polite shrug or a quiet thumbs-up? We lined up the launch-day reviews from India TV, IWMBuzz and OTT Release against Season 1’s reception. Then we made a call.

Short version? Comfort food, not a new dish.

Dupahiya Season 2 Review: The Quick Verdict

Critic consensus: 3/5. Our verdict: Paisa Vasool for Season 1 fans, skippable for everyone else.

Every critic who reviewed it on launch day landed on the same number. India TV’s Priya Shukla liked the performances and the light touch on a serious exam-leak theme. IWMBuzz and OTT Release both enjoyed the clean humour. They also flagged slow stretches and jokes that don’t always land.

That last bit matters. Season 2 plays it safe. If Season 1 made you smile, this will too. If you wanted the show to grow up a little, you might feel short-changed.

Forgot Season 1? Here’s the 30-Second Recap

Dupahiya Season 1 arrived on March 7, 2025, with all nine episodes at once. The setup was simple and very desi. Dhadakpur is about to celebrate 25 years without a single crime. Then the motorcycle meant as a dowry gift vanishes right before a wedding.

Cue panic.

Critics split hard on it. Times of India called it “breezy” and gave it 4/5. Indian Express went with 3/5, calling it “clean, socially-relevant family entertainment”. Rediff landed at 3.5/5.

Not everyone bought in. NDTV gave it 2.5/5 and found the humour “too forced”. Hollywood Reporter India’s Rahul Desai thought the show was “too derivative”.

Keep that spread in mind. Season 1 swung from 2.5 to 4. Season 2’s scores sit tightly at 3. Fewer highs, fewer lows.

What’s Going On in Dhadakpur This Time (Spoiler-Light)

The new season picks up with the Jha family. Roshni’s wedding falls through over the missing bike gift. Instead of sulking, she sets her sights on the SSC exam. She wants to pass, earn her own money and take an independent trip to Mumbai.

Banwari has money troubles of his own. He considers leasing land for a 5G mobile tower, and that sends the village’s superstitions into overdrive.

Then there’s Bhugol. He wants mainstream stardom and badly wants to shake off his viral “Launda Naach” dancer image.

India TV reads the exam paper-leak thread as the season’s big social theme. The show handles it with humour, which suits the Dupahiya brand just fine.

The creators describe it as “big dreams colliding with everyday chaos”. Fair enough. A tower, an exam, a dance career. Small-town stakes, big-city ambition.

Nirahua’s Entry: What the Bhojpuri Star Brings

This is the headline addition. Dinesh Lal Yadav, better known as Nirahua, plays Pratham Kumar. According to India TV, Pratham is a middleman in the exam-cheating and paper-leak racket, forever dodging the police.

On paper, that’s a smart fit for a season built around an exam.

How does he do? IWMBuzz’s review says he brings “his own charm” and some fresh energy. OTT Release says he “adds more colour to the village setting” with casual, believable work.

Read those together and the picture gets clear. Nirahua is a welcome supporting player. He doesn’t take over the show, and he isn’t meant to.

For Bhojpuri fans, seeing him in a Hindi streaming comedy is still a treat. For everyone else, he’s a nice bonus.

Performances: Gajraj Rao Still Runs the Show

No surprise here. IWMBuzz calls Gajraj Rao “undoubtedly the series’ highlight”, and OTT Release singles out his natural comic timing. Give the man a worried frown and a money problem, and he’s in his element.

India TV praises Rao and Renuka Shahane, who plays Pushplata Yadav. The same review says Sparsh Shrivastava “steals the limelight” as Bhugol. That’s a big compliment in a cast this stacked.

IWMBuzz credits Shivani Raghuvanshi with giving Roshni real determination. Bhuvan Arora (Amavas) and Yashpal Sharma round out the ensemble.

What Works and What Doesn’t

What works

  • Clean comedy. No vulgarity, so you can actually watch it with your parents.
  • Relatable setting. The village scenes and family dynamics feel lived-in.
  • Sharp dialogue. IWMBuzz’s Aarti Tiwari puts it well: “The dialogues capture the naturally sarcastic, quick-witted tone often heard in Bihar’s villages.”
  • Gajraj Rao. Enough said.

What doesn’t

  • Pacing. IWMBuzz flags slow patches and “boring” moments that could have gone.
  • Too many subplots. India TV feels the stories scatter.
  • Not enough growth. OTT Release finds the jokes uneven and says the show hasn’t evolved much since Season 1.

Our read? Those complaints all point one way. Season 2 knows what worked last time and sticks to it. Fans will find that comforting. Anyone hoping for a risk will find it a bit frustrating.

Dupahiya vs Panchayat: Is It Fair to Compare?

It’s the obvious comparison, and Dupahiya invites it. Back in Season 1, Rediff’s Deepa Gahlot found its “amiable characters” reminiscent of Panchayat.

Here’s our take. To us, Panchayat’s charm lives in its quiet moments. Dupahiya plays louder. It chases chaos, mix-ups and big comic set-ups.

So if you want Panchayat-level heartbreak, lower your expectations. If you want a loud, clean family comedy with desi flavour, this one does the job.

Gajraj Rao more or less promised that before launch. In a quote carried by Hans India, he said Season 2 “promises more chaos, more surprises and, of course, the same warmth and humour that audiences connected with in the first season.” Going by the reviews, he called it right.

Paisa Vasool Ya Time Waste? Our Final Call

Paisa Vasool, with a footnote.

If you liked Season 1, press play this weekend. At a reported eight episodes, it’s a manageable binge. You get the same warmth, Gajraj Rao in form and a fun new face in Nirahua.

If Season 1 left you cold, Season 2 won’t change your mind. Every launch-day Dupahiya Season 2 review says the show hasn’t reinvented itself, and we believe them.

New to Dhadakpur? Start with Season 1. The missing-bike fallout won’t land without it.

One question nobody can answer yet: will there be a Season 3? Nothing’s announced. But a show this comfortable with itself rarely knows when to stop, and honestly, Dhadakpur fans won’t mind.
