The Mookuthi Amman 2 trailer is finally out, and Nayanthara isn’t playing just one role. Titled “The World Of Mahasakthi”, it dropped on 21 October 2026 on the Vels Music International YouTube channel. Tamil and Telugu versions went live together (Hans India).

Diwali is barely two weeks away. That timing is no accident.

Nayanthara plays two people here. One is a police constable who gets scared of small things, like sleeping alone. The other is Goddess Mookuthi Amman herself, fighting demons to protect her people.

And the villains? Regina Cassandra and Duniya Vijay play mystical figures with supernatural powers who threaten the world. Regina, who has called out Bollywood’s double standards, switches to full villain mode here. Their plan also involves trapping innocent young children. That’s a darker hook than you’d expect from a festival family film.

The smartest move is what the trailer holds back. It hints at a link between the goddess and the timid constable, but never says what it is. DT Next sums it up as mythology, fantasy and action on a bigger scale than before.

Mookuthi Amman 2 story and release date

Quick clarification first. This isn’t a direct sequel. THR India reports the new film “shares no narrative continuity” with RJ Balaji’s 2020 hit.

That original, directed by RJ Balaji and N. J. Saravanan, premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on 14 November 2020. The makers announced Part 2 on 13 July 2024, with Sundar C in the director’s chair. Then the teaser, “Rise of Mahasakthi”, landed on 14 September 2026, just in time for Vinayaga Chaturthi.

The makers call it a “Mega Divine Entertainer”, and it opens in theatres on 6 November 2026. Some older reports say the date isn’t locked. Ignore them. Hans India’s trailer report confirms Diwali.
