Jailer 2 Trailer: Tiger Is Back, Bigger and Deadlier
The Jailer 2 trailer dropped on October 5, and Tiger Muthuvel Pandian clearly didn’t stay retired for long. Sun Pictures put out the 2-minute-24-second cut on the official Sun TV channel. Nelson Dilipkumar directs, and Anirudh is back on music. It reportedly crossed 6 million views in its first five hours.
Not a Tamil viewer? Sun Gemini has an official Telugu trailer, and a Hindi trailer is out too.
So, should you hype it? Mostly yes. The trailer sells scale and swagger, and it keeps the story close to its chest.
What the Jailer 2 trailer shows
Muthuvel starts in a quieter phase, until his past drags him back into violence. According to Republic World’s recap, it builds slowly before the action kicks in. The whole thing plays bigger and more action-heavy than the first film.
Sacnilk says he’s lying low as a driver. On the side, he’s digging into the larger network behind the idol-smuggling gang he took down earlier. Suraj Venjaramoodu’s character, meanwhile, is out hunting for the mysterious “Tiger.” There are hints of a much bigger crime syndicate pulling the strings.
The best tone marker comes near the end. Yogi Babu’s character remarks that Tiger has been killing people and washing cars as if nothing happened.
That line is pure Nelson. Dark humour, stylised violence, and now a lot more action on top. If our Jailer review had you hooked in 2023, this looks like the same recipe in a much bigger kadai.
Jailer 2 cast and crew
Rajinikanth returns as Muthuvel Pandian. Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, Vinayakan and Jaffer Sadiq are back as well.
The new and featured names:
- SJ Suryah: Tiger’s newest foe
- Suraj Venjaramoodu: the antagonist Dileep
- Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan, Vijay Sethupathi: featured roles
- Mohanlal and Shivarajkumar: reprising their cameos, with Jackie Shroff also in the mix
Vidya Balan’s role stays a mystery. The trailer doesn’t give it away, and we kind of love that.
Behind the camera, Nelson writes and directs, while Kalanithi Maran produces for Sun Pictures. Vijay Kartik Kannan handles the camera, and R. Nirmal edits. Anirudh’s second single, “One Sun, One Moon,” came out in September. He composed it and sang it with MS Krsna.
Hrithik Roshan in Jailer 2? Not confirmed
A quick shot of a sleek man walking down a corridor has fans yelling “Hrithik!” The makers haven’t confirmed a thing, and Onmanorama files it under fan speculation. The Shah Rukh Khan chatter sits in the same bucket.
Fans have also compared Vidya Balan’s look to Lydia Rodarte-Quayle from Breaking Bad. Fun theory. Keep it a theory until the first show.
Jailer 2 story and release date
Jailer 2 opens in theatres worldwide on October 15, 2026, right in the Dussehra window. You get it in standard and IMAX formats.
The CBFC rated it U/A 16+. Runtime? 165 minutes 18 seconds, per Outlook India. That’s about 3 minutes shorter than the first Jailer, and it settles those earlier reports of an A certificate.
New to the 16+ tag? Our CBFC certification explainer sorts it out. Torn on the big-screen format? Read IMAX vs 4DX vs Dolby Atmos before you book.
My take: the Jailer 2 trailer hides the plot and sells Tiger’s swagger, which is exactly what a Rajini sequel should do. Whether it climbs Rajinikanth’s highest-grossing list, we’ll know by the first weekend.
