Udta Teer Trailer: Ayushmann Is a Spy With Amnesia
Dharma Productions dropped the Udta Teer trailer on September 23, and the pitch is gloriously silly. Ayushmann Khurrana plays Bilal, a Pakistani spy who loses his memory in India. Soon he’s convinced he’s Indian.
The tagline nails it: “Deshbhakti toh yaad hai… par desh nahi.” He remembers the patriotism. He just forgot which country it belonged to.
Honestly? A spy comedy that laughs at the whole India-Pakistan game sounds like a welcome change.
What the Udta Teer trailer shows
Hollywood Reporter India lays out the setup. The amnesiac Bilal ends up working as an Indian counter-intelligence operative. His Pakistani handlers soon find out he’s turned on them and is taking out their agents. Then a terrorist named Azhar Maqsood slips in, and the clock starts ticking. THR India calls it a “reverse Dhurandhar,” which is a neat way to put it.
The tone is the bigger surprise. Koimoi’s trailer review calls it a “seriously unserious film” and points to gags about Ozempic and nepotism. It also says the India-Pakistan angle skips the chest-thumping. Sara Ali Khan’s character seems to be quietly manipulating Bilal, and I’d bet that’s where the twists live.
The trailer carries a U/A 16+ certificate and runs 3 minutes 21 seconds. Not sure what that rating means? Our guide to CBFC certification breaks it down.
Udta Teer cast and crew
Here’s who’s in it, per Outlook India:
- Ayushmann Khurrana as Bilal
- Sara Ali Khan as the female lead
- Supporting cast: Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Sandeep Anand, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Smita Tambe
- Director: Akash A Kaushik, in his directorial debut
- Producers: Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain
- Banners: Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment
That’s a stacked bench for a comedy. Ram Kapoor and Gulshan Grover in a spy farce? I’m in.
Ayushmann fans have plenty on the calendar, too. His YRF film Mupapa is another one to track.
Udta Teer story and release date
Koimoi sums up the premise neatly. A Pakistani spy loses his memory in India and believes he’s Indian. He turns patriotic toward the wrong country. Meanwhile, his old colleagues scramble to restore his real identity.
Now the date, because you’ll see two floating around.
Udta Teer hits cinemas on October 23, 2026. The makers pushed it from October 9. The News Mill reports the move buys “a cleaner release window and a stronger theatrical runway.” Dharma’s own YouTube title for the Udta Teer trailer says “In Cinemas Oct 23” as well.
Older write-ups still list October 9, because they went live before the delay. Curious how studios juggle these shifts? Here’s how Bollywood release dates are decided.
One caveat. Everything above comes from a trailer, and trailers sell. But if the full film handles a touchy subject with a touch this light, October 23 is circled on my calendar.
