Bethlehem Kudumba Unit Box Office Collection: Lokah Toppled
Twenty-four days. That’s all Nivin Pauly’s Bethlehem Kudumba Unit needed to cross ₹300 crore worldwide. As of September 18, 2026, the Bethlehem Kudumba Unit box office collection stands at ₹313.92 crore worldwide gross. That’s after 28 days in theatres, per Sacnilk’s day-wise tracker.
Say hello to the highest-grossing Malayalam movie ever. It got there in a hurry.
The previous record holder, Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra, needed around 45 days to reach ₹300 crore. Nivin’s film did it in just over half that time. That makes it the fastest Malayalam film ever to cross ₹300 crore. It’s also only the second one to get there at all.
Here’s the bit that really stings for Lokah fans. Its entire theatrical run finished at ₹301.41 crore. Bethlehem Kudumba Unit (BKU from here on) cleared that inside four weeks, and it’s still selling tickets.
Bethlehem Kudumba Unit Box Office Collection: The Big Number
The full split as of September 18, 2026, after Day 28 (Sacnilk figures):
- Worldwide gross: ₹313.92 crore
- India gross: ₹177.72 crore (India net: ₹152.20 crore)
- Overseas gross: ₹136.20 crore
- Total shows so far: 55,028

Now the budget math. The Week puts the reported budget at ₹23 crore. The worldwide gross is already more than 13 times that. Gross isn’t profit, sure. But for the makers, this is paisa vasool with serious interest.
Quick refresher on who’s behind it. Girish A.D. directed the film, with Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju in the lead roles. Dileesh Pothan, Fahadh Faasil and Syam Pushkaran produced it under Bhavana Studios. It opened in theatres on August 21, 2026.

The overseas twist
Look at the India row again. Lokah actually grossed a bit more at home: ₹181.21 crore against BKU’s ₹177.72 crore so far. Nivin’s film pulled ahead overseas, where it has earned ₹16 crore more than Lokah did.
Overseas now accounts for roughly 43% of BKU’s worldwide total. Most trackers put Kerala and India numbers front and centre. But audiences abroad built this record as much as fans back home did.
The India gap is small, and BKU is still adding to its India tally every day. We wouldn’t bet against it overtaking that row too before the run ends.
Why the numbers don’t match everywhere
One honest caveat. Trackers rarely agree to the rupee. Outlets put BKU’s Day 24 worldwide gross anywhere between ₹304.95 crore and ₹309.05 crore. Lokah’s final tally floats between ₹301.41 crore and ₹303.86 crore, depending on the snapshot.
We’ve explained why no two box office trackers agree before. The headline holds either way. Even the most generous Lokah figure sits below the current Bethlehem Kudumba Unit box office collection.
Why This Record Matters
A ₹300 crore Malayalam film isn’t brand new anymore. Lokah got there first. So why does this one feel bigger?
- Speed. 24 days against 45. No Malayalam film has reached ₹300 crore faster.
- Kerala’s all-time crown. It’s now the highest-grossing film ever in Kerala. It passed Vaazha II: Biopic of a Billion Bros for that title in just 17 days.
- A ridiculous return. Over 13x a ₹23 crore budget. Every producer in Kochi will be studying this one.
- Nivin’s career best. Per The Week, it’s the biggest hit he has ever headlined.
Nivin, for his part, kept it warm. He posted this on Instagram:
“300+ Crores Worldwide Gross! Thank you for the endless love! The frame would have been truly complete with our music magician Vishnu Vijay in it. Sending you all the love!”
Using your big record post to shout out a teammate who wasn’t in the frame? Classy.
What’s Next for Bethlehem Kudumba Unit?
Honestly, the fireworks phase is over. The film has settled into its tail-end run.
Sacnilk’s Day 28 update shows ₹1.05 crore net in India from 1,338 shows. That’s a 16% dip from Day 27’s ₹1.25 crore. Shows are thinning out too, down from 1,501 on Day 24.
So the Bethlehem Kudumba Unit box office collection won’t jump much from here. Expect smaller daily additions that stretch its lead over Lokah, not a sprint toward a new club. The real question is how long this benchmark stays on top.
Our Verdict: Record-Breaker, Full Stop
A ₹23 crore Malayalam film just beat Lokah’s ₹300 crore pace by three weeks. Audiences abroad chipped in more than 40% of the total. Call it whatever you like. We’re calling it the new benchmark for Malayalam cinema.
Still haven’t seen it on the big screen? Go this week, while the shows last. Curious where it lands against the year’s other big hits? Our running list of the highest-grossing South Indian movies of 2026 has the full picture.
So, over to you. Does BKU’s record survive the next big Malayalam release, or is someone already gunning for it?
