Jailer 2 Box Office Collection Week 1: ₹317 Cr Net, Hit?
Seven days. ₹317.20 crore net in India. That’s the Jailer 2 box office collection for week 1, going by Sacnilk’s tracking. Worldwide, the gross already sits at roughly ₹581 to ₹582 crore.
Still seeing “₹200 crore” headlines? Those are old news. Rajinikanth’s sequel blew past that mark by Day 5 and joined the ₹500 crore worldwide club a day later.
But it hasn’t been a perfect week. Day 7 fell almost 40%. Hindi audiences mostly stayed home. And no two trackers agree on the exact numbers. Monster week? Yes. Flawless? Not quite.

Net and gross trip up a lot of readers, so keep our nett vs gross explainer handy.
Quick verdict: this is a giant opening week, and Tamil audiences did most of the heavy lifting. The only real worry is how fast the weekday numbers are cooling.
Jailer 2 Day-Wise Collection (India Net)
Here’s the day-wise India net from Sacnilk’s Day 7 report. All figures are tracker estimates in ₹ crore, not official producer numbers.
| Day | Date | India Net (₹ Cr) | Occupancy | Running Total (₹ Cr) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Day 1 (Thu) | 15 Oct | 59.70 | 55.4% | 59.70 |
| Day 2 (Fri) | 16 Oct | 37.10 | 48.2% | 96.80 |
| Day 3 (Sat) | 17 Oct | 47.25 | 53.9% | 144.05 |
| Day 4 (Sun) | 18 Oct | 55.85 | 62.0% | 199.90 |
| Day 5 (Mon) | 19 Oct | 42.35 | 49.9% | 242.25 |
| Day 6 (Tue) | 20 Oct | 46.80 | 53.4% | 289.05 |
| Day 7 (Wed) | 21 Oct | 28.15 | 34.8% | 317.20 |
| Week 1 | 317.20 |
Look at Sunday. ₹55.85 crore with 62% occupancy, nearly matching opening day. The halls never got fuller all week. On Sacnilk’s revised figures, the running total stopped at ₹199.90 crore that night. So the ₹200 crore net mark came on Monday.
And what a Monday. The Week reports a Day 5 domestic gross of over ₹45 crore, the biggest first Monday ever for a Tamil film. Leo held the old record at ₹39.5 crore. The original Jailer managed ₹27.3 crore on its first Monday. Bigil (₹22.8 crore) and Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 (₹22.35 crore) sit further back.
Friday was the soft spot. Earnings dipped to ₹37.10 crore, bounced back over the weekend, and then the Dussehra holidays gave it another push.
Sacnilk, by the way, had projected about ₹125 crore worldwide for opening day. The actual figure came in at ₹125.25 crore. Predictions rarely land that close.
Worldwide and Overseas: The 500 Crore Club
Here’s how the worldwide gross climbed:
- Day 1: ₹125.25 Cr
- Day 4: ₹424.25 Cr
- Day 5: ₹477.75 Cr
- Day 6: ₹541 Cr
- Day 7: ₹580.95-582.45 Cr
Day 6 is when it entered the club. The Week put the worldwide total at ₹541 crore that night, with ₹204 crore coming from overseas.
Overseas fans showed up early. Sacnilk counted ₹190 crore gross abroad in just four days, with about ₹40 crore of it on Sunday. The trade pegs the overseas recovery mark at roughly $21.5-22 million. Jailer 2 had around $19.5 million after four days, so it had already covered close to 90% of that.
North America is a slower climb. The film made about $5.10-5.30 million there in four days. That’s roughly 78-82% of a reported $6.5 million break-even. In the US, it opened at No. 9 on the 16-18 October weekend, with an estimated $3.20 million from 800 theatres.
Now the fun bit. Sacnilk lists Leo’s lifetime overseas gross at ₹204 crore, Jailer’s at ₹196 crore and Coolie’s at ₹180.50 crore. Jailer 2 crossed ₹209 crore abroad in seven days. Seven!
Language-Wise Split: Tamil Rules, Hindi Lags
| Language | Net Till Day 7 (₹ Cr) | Share of India Net | Occupancy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tamil | 225.70 | ~71% | 67.2% |
| Telugu | 59.75 | ~19% | 55.5% |
| Hindi | 28.25 | ~9% | 23.0% |
| Kannada | 3.50 | ~1% | 51.4% |
Tamil carries this film. About 71% of the India net comes from the Tamil version. And 67.2% occupancy across a full week is massive.
Telugu is a solid second at nearly ₹60 crore. No complaints there.
Hindi is the problem. ₹28.25 crore and 23% occupancy is weak for a film this size, even with Hrithik Roshan in a special appearance. Kannada is tiny in rupee terms, but 51.4% occupancy says the shows it did get weren’t empty.
On Day 7 alone, the split read: Tamil ₹18.50 crore, Telugu ₹6 crore, Hindi ₹3 crore and Kannada ₹0.65 crore.
Day 7 Drop: What Happens Next?
Wednesday brought the first real dip. Collections fell 39.9%, from ₹46.80 crore to ₹28.15 crore. Occupancy slid to 34.8%, and the average per show came to ₹19,454.
Should you panic? Nah. Tuesday had the Dussehra holiday behind it, so a correction was always coming. A fall like this after a festive day is gravity, not a crash.
Will the Jailer 2 box office collection hold up in week 2? The early signs look good. Sacnilk’s advance figures for Saturday, 24 October (Day 10) show ₹11.96 crore gross in pre-sales. Strip out block seats and it’s ₹10.33 crore. That’s 6.56 lakh tickets across 12,137 shows, with Chennai leading at ₹2.84 crore. Pre-sales for Day 8 and Day 9 stood at ₹8.72 crore and ₹7.58 crore.
Remember, those are advance bookings, not final collections. We haven’t seen verified Day 8 and Day 9 totals yet, so this report stays at Day 7.
Budget vs Collection: Is Jailer 2 a Hit?
The reported budget is ₹240-300 crore. That range comes from Times of India reports, which The Week relayed. Sun Pictures hasn’t put out an official figure, and nobody has published an official recovery verdict either.
So what follows is our opinion, not a trade certificate.
Gross collection isn’t the producer’s money. Theatres keep a share and taxes come off the top, so the budget figure alone tells you very little. Our guide on how movie break-even works in India walks through that maths.
Still, look at the numbers. A film that grosses about twice its reported budget in seven days isn’t asking “will it recover?” anymore. It’s asking “how big does this get?” On current form, the Jailer 2 box office collection puts it in hit territory, with the Hindi market as the one asterisk.
The real benchmark is the first film. Sacnilk puts Jailer’s lifetime worldwide gross at ₹604.50 crore. Jailer 2 reached about 96% of that in one week, so it needs roughly ₹24 crore more. With Saturday’s India advance alone near ₹12 crore, you can do the maths. Want to see where this lands in Thalaivar’s career? Check our Rajinikanth highest grossing movie list.
Why Trackers Show Different Numbers
If the Jailer 2 box office collection looks different on every site you open, you’re not imagining it. Here’s where the numbers split this week:
- Day 2: ₹37.10 crore on Sacnilk’s latest page, ₹35.60 crore on an earlier one
- Day 5: ₹39.95 crore in The Week’s 10 pm report, ₹42.35 crore in Sacnilk’s final count
- Day 6: ₹45.55 crore at 10 pm, then ₹46.80 crore after Sacnilk’s revision
- Day 7 worldwide: ₹580.95 crore on Sacnilk, ₹582.45 crore on The Week
- Week 1 India net: ₹317.20 crore on Sacnilk. The Week went with “Rs 300 crore”, and a 5 pm live count read ₹301.76 crore.
Most of the gap is timing. Night-time figures are provisional, and trackers revise them the next day once more data comes in. Even Sacnilk’s own Day 7 page disagrees with itself. One table puts Day 7 Hindi occupancy at 16.0%, another at 24.77%.
We go deeper on this in how box office collection is calculated in India. Short version: trust the trend, not the decimal.
Paisa Vasool Ya Time Waste?
For the people who bankrolled it and the theatres down South? Full paisa vasool. A record first Monday and ₹500 crore worldwide inside six days. The overseas run beat Leo’s lifetime number in a week. That’s Rajinikanth pull.
The Hindi belt is the time-waste column. ₹28 crore at 23% occupancy won’t get anyone in Mumbai’s trade circles excited.
Our bet? Jailer 2 overtakes the original’s ₹604.50 crore worldwide this second weekend. The bigger question is whether Tamil audiences keep coming on weekdays once the festive glow fades. Watched it yet, or waiting for a quieter show? Tell us in the comments.
